"I'm glad that 95% are reliable. Only 5% are not reliable, but I take that risk, because I was in a bad situation before, and I know it's hard to provide. Especially to people coming to a new country, it's hard to get everything, and especially it's hard to get a good job. I understand that."

- Mohammad Marouf Sharifi, Owner

The wall behind the checkout counter tells the story: dozens of small notes, each representing a family trying to make ends meet. Through your support, we can help clear these IOUs and strengthen this vital community resource.

The Ahmadi Family's Journey

Abdul Basir Ahmadi, 37, arrived in Yuba City with his wife, Marzia, and four school-age daughters in April. Having worked as a cook for U.S. contractors since his teenage years, Abdul's connection to America made him a target when the Taliban retook control of Afghanistan.

"Because of that, we need to save our family. Because of that, we came here."

- Abdul Basir Ahmadi

Real Challenges, Real Resilience

  • All four daughters (ages 7-13) face hearing difficulties, affecting their school experience
  • Medical appointments often conflict with work schedules
  • Transportation remains a daily challenge
  • The family struggles with English while trying to navigate their new life

Despite these challenges, Abdul works part-time at Noble Halal Market, where store owner Mohammad Marouf Sharifi understands firsthand the journey from military interpreter to rebuilding life in America. This is more than employment—it's a circle of support within our community.

"The money is not enough for the home rent, for the electric, for insurance. We need to buy gas, clothes, everything. We need to work. But before work... we need to learn English."

- Abdul Basir Ahmadi
